The Archdiocese’s plan to demolish the San Luis rightly raises the ire of preservationists and advocates of intelligent urban design alike. The prospect of yet another surface parking lot in a city pockmarked with pavement should rankle yet another group: environmentalists. Laughable as the concept of a “green” parking lot already was, a look at the National Trust’s Sustainability Initiative reveals the intricate link between preservation and energy conservation:

  1. OK, so wait: The archdiocese “doesn’t have enough money” to pay staff so it lays them off (i.e.-fires them), but it DOES have money to demolish a building?! Am I missing something here?
