Wow, I can’t even imagine how anyone could’ve considered the Old Post Office (arguably one of the city’s most impressive architectural jewels) an “ugly wreck,” even if it was in shabby condition. This letter is a sobering testament to the “out with the old” pervading mentality in the era of urban renewal.
43 years from now, we will reflect upon the fate of the San Luis. Will we be praised or shamed?
hmm… 43+41=84. I may not be around for that reflection, so I’ll just say that those that labor and fight for what we all know now to be so right, should be content with the ultimate unsung praise of effort because the buildings are worth saving.
